TAIL opens applications twice a year. Four phases show us what you know, how you work with others, and what you want from the league.

How it works

Initial screening
Application
Apply through the form while applications are open. We review every application before moving on to the notebooks.

Notebook phase
Technical knowledge
You get Jupyter notebooks with questions on machine learning, data science, computer vision and more. They show us where you stand in technology and AI.

Group phase
Teamwork
We form random groups of five and give each one a random topic. Together you shape the idea for an MVP, so we can see how you work as a team, a skill everyone at TAIL needs.

Interview

We interview each candidate with questions drawn from what we saw in the first phases, to get to know you and what you want to get out of TAIL.

Do I have to be a student at UFPB's Centro de Informática to apply?
No. TAIL has members studying all over the world, and our meetings are always remote. Twice a year we get together in person for a meetup in João Pessoa, PB.
Can I apply if I'm just starting college?
Yes. Some people have joined TAIL before they even started college. We're looking for people who are ready to learn and want to make a real impact on AI research and development.
Do I need to know AI already?
No. The notebook phase shows us where you stand, not whether you're already an expert. Curiosity and willingness to learn matter more than what you know today.
Can I apply again if I'm not selected?
Yes. You can apply again in any future rotation.
How much time does TAIL take each week?
Usually one meeting a week, though it depends on the directorate you join.
What do members actually do?
Each directorate researches the area it focuses on. Members build projects and do research together, and some of our work has recently been published at events.
What do I gain from joining TAIL?
A community of people who love making an impact and love teaching, and who are always ready to help you whenever you need it.
